Industrially Important Microbial Enzymes Production and Their Applications

Abstract

The development of industrial bioprocesses relies heavily on microbial enzymes. Since many years ago, using enzymes for business has been a very regular practice. Numerous new enzymes have been discovered as a result of technological advancements, some of which have not yet undergone thorough study. Markets for pulp and paper, detergents, leather and textiles, pharmaceuticals (medicines), fine chemicals, food and beverages, biofuels, animal feed, and personal care are among those that applications now target. The development of new, enhanced, or more adaptable enzymes is now necessary for industrial processes that are more innovative, natural, and economically competitive. Chemical engineering and a grasp of microbial physiology are both required to scale up a fermentation process to meet the maximum demands of microbial enzymes. Peer-reviewed publications related to the development of microbial enzymes and their potential use in various industries were assessed and generated as part of this chapter's progressive consideration of them. Based on the findings of reliable academic journals, articles have been divided into two categories: approaches used to produce the diversity of microbes through microbial fermentation and methods used to produce the diversity of microorganisms through fermentation processes. For the generation of enzymes, submerged fermentation and solid-state fermentation are the two most significant fermentation techniques. In this chapter, we focus on and address the current technical and scientific involvement of microorganisms in the manufacturing of enzymes as well as their current position in the global enzyme industry.
