In this paper, a fundamental investigation of the inductive coil’s different shapes and its parameter computations is provided. The efficiency of the Wireless Power System (WPT) increases with the increase of the coil coupling coefficient (K). Therefore, two coil models (circular and square) were designed using Ansys Maxwell software. Each model consists of two coils: a transmitter coil, which is placed on the street pavement, and a receiver which is positioned in the car chassis. At a fixed distance between the transmitter and receiver coils, the coupling coefficient of coils is based on coil shapes. The two-coil models were chosen to evaluate the coupling coefficient and mutual inductance (M) and confirm the performance of the WPT. The Ansys Maxwell simulation results show that the circular coils have a coupling coefficient of 0.569 at 5 mm air spacing, which is higher than square coils. Therefore, the circular coils work effectively in electric vehicle wireless charging.
