Improvement of an Algorithm for Resilient Assembly Line Balancing in Automotive Sector

Abstract

The term “Resilience” became popular lately in the industrial sector and researchers became increasingly interested in manufacturing resilience during emerging situations. The manufacturing resilience describes the ability of a production system (Machine, Assembly line, Factory...) to respond to changes and disturbances. Therefore, we call a production system resilient when it maintains the required results (production rate, quality, failure rate etc.) regardless of the circumstances.During the COVID-19 period, all production systems were impacted by the changes caused by the virus, for this reason we propose in this article improvements in the classical Simple assembly line balancing problem Type-E (SALBP-E) mathematical model proposed in the literature in order to guarantee the resilience of the lines in the future.
