Improvement in harmonic reduction of multipulse rectifier for X-ray generator

Abstract

The primary characteristic determining the effectiveness of an X-ray generator is the quality of the output voltage, which directly affects the quality of X-ray images. This makes the elimination of harmonics generated in the power conversion stages a critical concern. Indeed, although the integration of filtering stages can temporarily mask the harmonics, they reappear at the load level due to the high power demand. The adaptation of polyphase rectifiers at the initial stages of the X-ray generator assembly is the solution investigated in this article. In this work, a three-phase voltage of 380 V at a frequency of 50 Hz is applied to the X-ray generator, which incorporates 6, 12, and 24-pulse rectifiers. Simulation results obtained using MATLAB are presented to validate the effectiveness of this approach.
