Impact of the public fleet electrification on modern electric distribution networks

Abstract

In recent years, electrical fleets within distribution systems have gained significant market share due to their role in conserving natural resources and reducing pollution. As the development of charging infrastructure for electric vehicles (EVs) continues to grow, the impact of electric vehicle stations (EVS) on power quality (PQ) becomes a crucial consideration. EVs, owing to their bidirectional grid-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-grid charging capabilities, pose challenges to the traditional electrical grid. The proliferation of EVs is associated with a corresponding increase in PQ issues within the electrical distribution infrastructure, including concerns such as harmonic distortion, transformer failures, and voltage imbalances.
