Impact of Materials and Wear Mechanisms in a Brake System

Abstract

The materials utilized in brake systems, wear processes, and an assessment of their performance were all covered in this study. Understanding the wear, lubrication, and friction of interacting surfaces in relative motion requires an understanding of tribology. The significance of tribology in brake systems and how it impacts system performance was covered in this paper. The tribological characteristics, benefits, and drawbacks of brake systems were also discussed in this study. We talked about the wear mechanisms of brake systems, including the variables that impact wear and the techniques for assessing wear. Owing to their advantageous mechanical, chemical, thermal, and tribological characteristics, brake pad composites made of carbon were taken into consideration. The selection of appropriate friction materials, wear-resistant materials, and heat-dissipation materials is crucial in mitigating adhesive wear in brake systems. The safety of a vehicle and its appropriate operation in traffic situations depend on its braking system. Brakes that overheat can also lose effectiveness, leading to a dangerous phenomenon called brake fade.
