Background and objectives: peripheral inflammation is often found in the circulation of these patients. The objective of this study was to examine the relationship between peripheral inflammatoion, and the severity of symptoms in children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Methods: A total of 32 children with ADHD and 30 controls aged from 5 to 12 years. The extent of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder symptomatology was measured using Conner's parent-rated scale. Each kid had a complete blood count analysis. Results: The levels of neutrophils, neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and platelets/lymphocytes ratio (PLR) were significantly higher in ADHD than controls (p = 0.01, 0.02 and 0.04) respectively, while the lymphocyte counts were lower in ADHD group rather than the control group yet insignificant. Conclusion: This study's findings advance the concept that inflammation has a significant part in the complicated pathophysiology of ADHD. Furthermore, our findings show that readily available and trustworthy hematological indicators can be employed to investigate the impact of inflammatory processes in ADHD pathogenesis.
