HE2AT Center RP2 Metadata Catalogue: Multi-System Biomarker Heat Analysis, Johannesburg

Abstract

Metadata catalogue for the HE2AT Center Research Platform 2 (RP2) study: "Heat, Vulnerability, and the Body: Multi-System Biomarker Signatures of Temperature Exposure in Johannesburg Revealed Through Explainable Machine Learning" (Parker et al., 2026, target: Environmental Data Science). This catalogue documents all harmonised datasets used in the analysis: 14 Johannesburg clinical cohorts (2003–2021): 11,114 records, 27 biomarkers across 8 organ systems ERA5 climate linkage: temperature at lags 0–30 days, heat indices, apparent temperature GCRO socioeconomic linkage: ward-based nearest-neighbour matching (v4.0) Heat Vulnerability Index (HVI): 3-component composite framework Harmonisation protocols: ALCOA+ data quality framework, REDCap codebook, per-study QA reports Clinical data are held under institutional data governance (University of the Witwatersrand HREC) and are not publicly available. The analysis pipeline is available at https://github.com/Logic06183/heat-analysis-optimized Funding: NIH U54 TW 012083 (HE2AT Center — Heat and Health in Africa).
