Governance and Performance of Local Authorities in Morocco

Abstract

This study explores the relationships between governance and the performance of local governments in Morocco. The adopted methodology facilitates a detailed analysis of the causal links between various dimensions of governance—such as transparency, participation, convergence, and partnership—and the performance of local governments, evaluated in terms of relevance, effectiveness, efficiency, and impact. The findings reveal that specific governance dimensions significantly influence local government performance in Morocco. For instance, transparency and citizen participation emerge as critical factors positively affecting the quality of local public services. By employing structural equation modeling, these relationships are quantitatively identified, offering valuable insights for decision-makers and practitioners seeking to enhance local governance in Morocco.
