Geothermal Energy Potentials for Electricity Generation: An Overview

Abstract

Geothermal energy is known to contribute immensely to the sustainability of the energy sector in any economy. It is a renewable energy resource which is proficient in the development of baseload power generation which eventually helps in reducing the total dependence on fossil fuel. While there exist vast geothermal energy resources around the globe which has not be harnessed, however, a lot of barriers limits its exploitation. Thus, this study focused on the exploration of available geothermal energy for heat and power production in order to achieve a sustainable electricity generation at lower cost. The study established that the hidden potentials in geothermal energy is huge and if adequately tapped, will eventually help in reducing the overdependence in fossil fuel. Thus, reducing carbon footprint and other greenhouse gas emissions.
