Examining the Effect of Electronic Communication Issues on Construction Project Performance Delivery in Plateau State

2026Open accessUniversity of Abuja

Abstract

This study examines the effect of electronic communication issues on construction project performance delivery in Plateau State, Nigeria. Despite the potential of electronic tools such as email, WhatsApp, project management software, and cloud platforms used to enhance real-time collaboration, efficiency, and traceability, adoption of the advanced means of communication is still uneven due to severe barriers which include poor internet connectivity, high adoption costs mean, message misinterpretation, unreliable power supply, and inadequate digital culture and a host of them. Survey data obtained from 124 construction professionals shows a moderate-to-high project performance in cost, quality, and time, but lower in safety precautional measure and coordination. The regression analysis conducted on the constructs shows that there is a greater severity of electronic communication issues, which is marginally significant influence on performance with Beta = 1.227, p = 0.056), likely due to the compensatory efforts, while electronic method adoption showed that there is no necessarily significant effect with Beta = 0.307, p = 0.584. Therefore, the findings highlighted that there is a need for infrastructure upgrades including training, and policy frameworks in order to harness electronic communication for better project performance especially in a resource-constrained regional contexts.
