Green hydrogen plays a pivotal role in facilitating the seamless integration of intermittent renewable energy sources into the power grid. This paper introduces a comprehensive methodology for assessing power grid flexibility and systematically evaluating the potential impact of integrating green hydrogen. The assessment encompasses a thorough examination of green hydrogen production, considering the inherent variability and uncertainty associated with renewable energy resources. Results demonstrate that the integration of green hydrogen significantly enhances grid flexibility, effectively balancing fluctuations in renewable energy generation. The study underscores the critical importance of expanding grid infrastructure, establishing interconnections, implementing optimal management practices, and incorporating diverse system flexibility options such as supply, demand-side, network, storage, and operation. Additionally, the findings emphasize the necessity of a phased approach to successfully integrate variable energy resources into power systems. Each stage addresses specific challenges, contributing to the establishment of a reliable, cost-effective, and sustainable energy system.
