Emerging Trends in workplace culture: A Sine Qua-Non for Employee Performance in Ebonyi State University Abakiliki

Abstract

Organizational culture of a university can have a profound effect on the performance and effectiveness of its workforce. The study therefore examined the emerging trends in workplace culture and its effect of the performance of employees of Ebonyi State University Abakaliki. The study adopted survey research as a design. Data were elicited using questionnaire, focus group discussion guide and extant records. Data were tested statistically and the findings revealed that toxic environment is a debilitating factor that inhibits employee morale and performance, Also, leadership style and communication distortion contribute negatively in diminishing performance in Ebonyi State University. The study made a far reaching recommendations based on on the findings. They include that the Ebonyi State University Management should bed backwards to redeem the image of the organization by adopting a dynamic leadership a and management styles that will foster performance. Also, they Management should ensure that toxic environment is eliminated to improve the employee morale and effective service delivery.
