Egyptian clinical practice guideline for deceased donor transplantation

Abstract

Organ shortage is a major challenge, depriving the majority of end-stage renal disease patients from enjoying a normal, healthy life. Egypt is on the verge of starting the deceased donor transplantation program; the Egyptian Society of Nephrology and Transplantation has led in writing the Egyptian guidelines for deceased donor transplantation by bringing together experts in nephrology transplant, surgery, neurology, ICU professionals, and clinical pathologists. These guidelines will promote consistency, safety, efficiency, equity, and ethical behavior. It will also serve as a valuable educational tool for trainees and professionals. This would allow the program to be practiced at its best and for the practice to succeed. The development of the guidelines came as an initiation from the Egyptian Society of Nephrology and Transplantation following the recommendation of the Ministry of Health. The society called the experts in transplantation, particularly those who have or previously trained in deceased donor transplantation. All the invitees are Egyptians currently working or have worked in Egypt to ensure an understanding of the economic and cultural challenges.
