EFFECT OF FIBRONOL AND DELTAMETHRIN VERSUS IVERMECTIN IN CONTROLLING CTENOCEPHALIDES CANIS INFESTATING GOATS

Abstract

A total of 15 goats were randomly divided into five groups (n =3): control (no treatment), deltamethrin(5mg/kg), fipronil (10mg/kg), ivermectin (0.2mg/kg), and deltamethrin & fipronil. Fleaswere counted at 0-, 2-, and 6-weeks post-treatment Blood samples were collected at the same timepoints of (deltamethrin & fipronil) to determine hemato-biochemical parameters such as Red bloodcells (RBC), White blood cells (WBC), Hemoglobin (Hb), Hematocrit (Hct), Alanine aminotransferase(ALT), Aspartate aminotransferase (AST), Total protein (TP), Albumin (Alb), Globulin(Glo), Cholesterol (Chol), Creatinine (Cr), Urea (Urea), and Glucose (Glu). Physiological performancewas assessed by rectal temperature, skin temperature, respiration rate and pulse rate. Theresults showed that combination therapy had the highest efficacy against flea infestation comparedto ivermectin treatment or the control group. The combination therapy also improved hematobiochemicalparameters such as RBC, HGB, HCT, and T3 compared to the control group or ivermectintreatment. The combined therapy significantly decreased ALT, AST or Cortisol comparedto the control group or single treatments.
