Background: Nurses are pivotal in the management of patients with stroke,particularly in the prevention of aspiration pneumonia, a common and seriouscomplication resulting from dysphagia. The knowledge and performance ofnursing staff are crucial for optimizing patient outcomes in these vulnerablepatients. Aim: This study aimed to evaluate the effect of a designed educationalprogram on nurses' performance regarding prevention of aspiration pneumoniafor patients with stroke. Methods: A quasi-experimental design was employed atStroke Unit of Beni-Suef University Hospital, engaging a cohort of 40 nurses.Data collection involved a self-administered questionnaire, a knowledgeassessment, and an observational checklist, administered before and after thetargeted educational program. Results: Initial assessments revealed that nursesexhibited inadequate clinical performance related to aspiration pneumoniamanagement. However, following the implementation of the educationalprogram, there was a marked improvement in both knowledge and practice withp value (0.004, 0.005 respectively. Conclusion & Recommendations: Theresults underscore the profound impact that designed educational initiatives canhave on augmenting nurses' knowledge and performance in preventingaspiration pneumonia among stroke patients. Healthcare institutions areencouraged to establish continuous education and training programs centered onstroke care and aspiration pneumonia prevention, thereby ensuring high-qualitycare for at-risk patients
