Direct synthesis of PtNi coated with Ni<sub>3</sub>B for efficient electrochemical hydrogen evolution from seawater

Abstract

The design of a protective electron-rich surface is an ideal route to enhance the performance of catalysts. Due to the higher work function of Ni<sub>3</sub>B, facile-directed electron transport occurs from PtNi to Ni<sub>3</sub>B to enrich electron density on the surface of the Ni<sub>3</sub>B shell. This process increases hydrogen adsorption-desorption kinetics and mitigates Cl<sup>-</sup> corrosion.
