Background: Erectile dysfunction (ED) is a common condition affecting adult males, significantly impacting their quality of life. To accurately determine the underlying cause of ED, targeted diagnostic evaluations may be necessary, with penile Duplex Doppler ultrasound (PDDU) recognized as the most dependable and frequently utilized diagnostic technique for identifying the etiology of ED. Aim: Evaluation of diameter of the cavernosal artery at both body and root of the penis in patients with erectile dysfunction. Patients and methods: This study was conducted on 16 patients with ED and assessed by duplex ultrasound examination at body and root of the penis. Results: the highest diameter of cavernosal artery at resting condition at the perineum and the lowest diameter at the midpenis, and there is highly significant variation between the three anatomical sites (midpenis, penoscrotum and perineum) (p value: 0.0001). Also there is significant difference between every two anatomical sites as follow, Midpenis and penoscrotum (p value: 0.0002), Penoscrotum and perineum (p value: 0.01) and perineum and mid penis (p value: 0.0001). Conclusion: ED is a prevalent issue among adult males, necessitating specific diagnostic investigations. The findings of this study indicate a significant difference in the cavernosal arterial diameter between the body and root of the penis. Consequently, we recommend conducting duplex ultrasound assessments of the penis at various anatomical locations.
