Diagnosis and Evaluation of Francis Type Turbine Alternators using the Multi-Sensor Vibration Analysis Approach: A Case Study

Abstract

For industry 4.0, vibration analysis is crucial in the diagnosis of mechanical systems, thanks to its ability to identify anomalies, whether structural or operational. This article aims to explain in detail this method of analysis on a hydroelectric generator. Through the exploration of eight distinct operating modes, the collection of specific vibration data, and an in-depth understanding of the system's reactions under varied conditions. This data is then subjected to careful evaluation to determine overall speed and travel levels. This critical step provides a comprehensive assessment of overall alternator performance and behavior. This detailed analysis constitutes a solid basis for assessing the state of health of the alternator, anticipating possible failures, and recommending preventive and corrective actions. To ensure the credibility of the results obtained, validation is carried out in accordance with the rigorous standards established by ISO 10816-5 and ISO 7919-5. This approach guarantees the reliability and precision of the confidence of the system studied in order to give recommendations formulated to maintain reliability and efficiency.
