Development of an Intelligence based hexapod for Surveillance using Raspberry Pi

Abstract

A robot is an artificial system designed to perform specific programmed tasks to aid day-to-day human activities. It finds application in industries for large-scale production, healthcare for computer-aided surgeries and security for surveillance. Most of these robotic systems employed for these operations use a wheeled mode of locomotion which has its limitations over rough terrains. To overcome these identified limitations, this work developed an intelligence-based hexapod for surveillance. The hexapod is a six-legged robot system built in tandem with an Image processing Artificial Intelligence to enhance surveillance, which is an important component of security. Although automating the process using robotic systems has been in the works for the past few years. However, this work built a remotely controlled automated surveillance system using a hexapod design for enhanced security surveillance using micro servos and a capable brain, known as the Raspberry pi, which incorporates image processing techniques. The results obtained from the developed system show that the use of hexapods allows for an improved locomotive ability and overall stability in rough terrain while surveying the locations of adversaries.
