Designing Printed Educational Materials about Healthy Habits Related to Coronavirus

Abstract

Background: Coronavirus disease is a recent global health threat and a public health emergency of internationalconcern. Printed Educational Materials (PEMs) is considered one of the main methods for health education that arewidely used to increase awareness among low health litreracy population. Aim: To design PEMs about healthy habitsrelated to Coronavirus. Method: Cross-sectional study design and Delphi method were used throughout this study. Nonprobabilitysampling techniques were used to recruit study participants. The study was conducted at Faculty of Nursing,Mansoura University in addition to 17 primary health care settings at Mansoura district. The sample size was 15professional experts and 16 academic staff from Faculty of Nursing, Mansoura University. In addition to 17 healtheducators and 136 low health literacy population from the selected settings. The researchers used six tools forpreliminary assessment, Delphi survey and designed PEMs evaluation. The researchers developed all the tools excepttool six adopted from (Heyne, 2017). Results: All Delphi survey panels achieved concensus with at least 75% agreementregarding all designing principles of both booklet and pamphlet with positive correlation implied consistent validity ofthe quality score of the designed PEMs. Conclusion: The researchers concluded that incorporating both professionalexperts and PEMs users with the low health literacy population preferences in the design process of PEMs provides amore holistic design. Recommendations: The researchers recommended that conducting health education campaignsand disseminating the designed PEMs for low health literacy individuals to improve their preventive practices towardCOVID-19.
