Design and Analysis of a Flexible Wristband Antenna for the Internet of Medical things (IoMT) Applications

Abstract

This paper introduces a flexible wristband antenna designed for Internet of medical Things (IoMT) applications. The antenna operates simultaneously at both 3.5 GHz (5G) and 5.8 GHz (Wi-Fi) frequency bands, making it compatible with various smart devices. The proposed antenna has dimensions of 62×14 mm<sup xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">2</sup>and is designed on a flexible leather substrate with a dielectric constant of 2,72 and a loss tangent of 0,02. Since this antenna is intended for wrist-worn applications, it was studied both in free space and on numerical hand conditions, demonstrating impressive and robust performance. Moreover, the impact of wristband bending on the antenna's performance was investigated for practical applications. The SAR analysis confirms that the wristband antenna complies with wearer safety limits and regulations, exhibiting a maximum SAR of0.113 and 0.182 W/kg for 1-gram tissue. Altogether, these features make the proposed wristband antenna an excellent candidate for wearable applications.
