Dataset on the insecticidal and repellent activities of extracts from three Allium spp. against the grapevine mealybug

Abstract

In this study, the researchers evaluated the bioactivities (repellence and toxicity) of three Allium spp (<i>A. sativum</i>, <i>A. cepa</i>, and <i>A. porrum</i>) and the grapevine mealybug, <i>Planococcus ficus</i> L. The results showed a significant difference in repellent efficacy. The acetone garlic extract was significantly more repellent than the other treatments (DF = 3; χ2 = 19.95; P &lt; 0.05). In addition, a significant difference in insecticidal efficacy among the plant species (DF=2; P &lt; 0.05) was recorded. Garlic exhibited the highest potency against vine mealybug, particularly when extracted with DCM. An organic soap formulation of garlic extract exhibited 38% repellency.This study received ethical approval from the Faculty Research Ethics Committee, Faculty of Applied Sciences, CPUT.<br>
