Data Security vs. Accessibility

Abstract

The advancement of remote work results in organisations depending on virtual collaboration tools and relying on digital workspaces, which have created new challenges in reconciling accessibility with data protection. This chapter explores the ethical dilemmas that emerge when organisational objectives for seamless virtual cooperation clash with the need to safeguard sensitive data and maintain user privacy. The chapter highlights different pathways to harmonise technology with human supervision to enhance data security and accessibility. This chapter advocates for a balanced ethical framework in the management of digital workspaces, emphasising the importance of both organisational efficiency and human-centered digital ethics. Recommendations encompass the inclusion of leadership in implementing transparent data policies, involving employees in the governance of digital tools, educating teams on virtual workplace ethics, and the enhancement of cybersecurity from an ethical perspective.
