Data Integrity Analysis of Water Quality Sensors and Water Quality Assessment

Abstract

During the last years, natural water resources like ponds, lakes, and rivers have faced a significant threat due to mismanagement of activities like the discharge of untreated industrial effluents, sewage water, wastes, etc. Water plays an essential role in all aspects of our lives. Therefore, detecting water pollutants causing contamination is imperative to sustain the quality of life. Therefore, it became mandatory to examine water quality to ensure that only safe water is available for us and other biological life. Thus, accurate sensors have become increasingly necessary, providing precise and coherent data, particularly when measuring sensitive natural sources. However, false readings due to poor quality measurements and individual impact related to the sensors can cause false conclusions. As a result, the information has a detrimental influence on making appropriate decisions. Our research aims to compare and analyze sensors based on two statistics metrics: the Relation Error and Information Gain, using the water quality standards provided by World Health Organization (WHO) as a guideline. pH, Dissolved Oxygen (DO), Electric Conductivity (EC), Turbidity, and Temperature are the measured parameters in this research. Next, to determine the actual state of the analyzed water source, we have developed a water quality indexation and classification based on the National Sanitation Foundation Water Quality (NSFWQI) method.
