Cyber technology in construction projects: A pathway to efficiency and sustainability

The construction industry plays a crucial role in economic development yet faces challenges such as inefficiencies, cost overruns, and limited real-time information, problems that can be mitigated by integrating digital and physical processes through cyber technology. However, while these benefits have been explored in developed countries, a significant gap remains in understanding the critical success factors and long-term impact of cyber technology in residential construction in developing economies like Egypt. Thus, this study aims to develop a cyber technology adoption model by investigating the relationship between cyber technology implementation drivers (CTIDs) and cyber technology implementation benefits (CTIBs) for residential construction projects. A multi-stage research methodology is employed, beginning with an extensive literature review to identify key adoption factors. Subsequently, a structured questionnaire survey was designed and administered to 122 construction professionals in Egypt, yielding empirical data for analysis. The data were rigorously analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM) to assess both the measurement and structural models. The findings reveal a moderate yet significant association between CTIDs and CTIBs, with the path coefficient (β = 0.262) underscoring the substantial impact of CTIDs on the realization of cyber technology benefits. These insights provide actionable guidance for decision-makers, enabling them to prioritize key drivers to optimize cyber technology adoption in residential projects. By offering a robust framework for understanding the interplay between adoption drivers and benefits, this study establishes a benchmark for improving project outcomes in developing economies, fostering innovation and sustainable growth in the construction industry.
