In this work, the essential oil of cumin from Morocco Drâa-Tafilalet have been used as corrosion inhibitor of carbon steel in 1M HCl. The essential oil of cumin is obtained by hydrodistillation technique, this extract has been identified by the method of gas chromatography coupled to the mass (GPC/Mass). The electrochemical study was carried out by potentiodynamic curves and impedance spectroscopy diagrams, completed by SEM/EDX surface analysis. The obtained result showed that the Cuminum cyminum L. can be used as an efficient inhibitor of carbon steel in acidic medium. This oil has proven to be an environmentally friendly, biodegradable and inexpensive corrosion inhibitor with a high potential for industrial application.
