Abstract

This chapter examines essential processes for assessing and inspecting corrosion in concrete structures. It covers various forms of corrosion—carbonation, chloride, and sulfate-induced—and stresses the importance of early detection to maintain structural integrity. Key assessment methods, including visual inspection, electrochemical techniques (half-cell potential, linear polarization resistance), and non-destructive testing (ultrasonic testing, radiography, and GPR) are discussed for their ability to reveal corrosion and internal defects. Advanced technologies like remote sensing and digital imaging are highlighted for enhancing assessment accuracy. Case studies demonstrate these methods’ practical effectiveness in real-world applications.
