ABSTRACT Regional alignment of research towards Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is key to achieving the United Nations (UN) 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The countries in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region share many challenges, and by focusing on SDG‐related research collectively, they could be better positioned to effectively achieve progress. A bibliometric analysis using SciVal was conducted to determine SADC's scholarly research contribution towards SDGs. Extracted data was analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics. South Africa emerged as the country with the most scholarly SDG contribution, while SDG 3 (Good health and well‐being) received the most attention. Seychelles was identified as an outlier based on its unique contribution to SDG 14 (Life below water). These results provide insights into SADC SDG‐related research and highlight patterns of scholarly activity across different SDGs, including areas of relative underrepresentation. The findings may inform reflection on research priorities and thematic focus within the region.
