ABSTRACT Herein, a new derivative of 2‐amino‐1,3,4‐thiadiazole‐2‐thiol was synthesized via a condensation reaction with p‐nitrobenzaldehyde to afford the corresponding Schiff base (N2). This intermediate was then converted to an alcohol derivative 2 (N3) by addition of formalin. All synthesized compounds were characterized by FTIR and 1 H‐NMR spectroscopy to ensure structure and purity. Conducted assessment of these color‐fastness to cotton fabrics according to ISO 105 protocols for wash, light, rub and sweat fastness. The results showed better stability and durability of the colourant molecules after structural modification. The fastness values of the yellow‐dyed cotton samples ranged from 1 to 3.5 on the grey scale, indicating a moderate to low fastness which is still requiring some optimization as a quality standard for practical textile applications based on high‐quality textile fastness.
