CLIMATE CHANGE AND ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY IN ADAMAWA STATE, NIGERIA

Abstract

Climate change poses a significant threat to environmental sustainability, particularly in regions like Adamawa State, Nigeria, where livelihoods are heavily dependent on natural resources. This study examines the impacts of climate change on environmental sustainability in Adamawa State, focusing on key sectors such as agriculture, water resources, and biodiversity. Through a mixed-methods approach, including qualitative interviews, quantitative surveys, and secondary data analysis, the study identifies the drivers of climate change, its effects on the environment, and the effectiveness of existing mitigation and adaptation strategies. The findings reveal increasing temperatures, erratic rainfall patterns, deforestation, unsustainable agricultural practices, and inadequate policy implementation are major contributors to environmental degradation. The study concludes with recommendations for strengthening policy frameworks, promoting community-based conservation initiatives, and enhancing public awareness to foster environmental sustainability in the face of climate change.
