CBCT analysis of Marginal Bone Loss of Mandibular Implant supported Overdenture using Acemannan Sponge

Abstract

Aim: This assessed the impact of Acemannan Sponge on marginal bone loss (MBL) associated with mandibular implant-supported overdentures.Subjects and Methods: Ten completely edentulous male patients, aged 60 to 70 years, were selected for the study. Each participant received two implants in the mandibular canine region and was assigned to one of two treatment groups: Group I, where the implant was placed into the osteotomy using the conventional method on the right side, and Group II, where an Acemannan sponge was inserted into the osteotomy prior to implant placement on the left side. All patients received overdentures immediately following implant placement, in line with immediate loading protocols. Bone loss was assessed using CBCT at the mesial, distal, buccal, and lingual sites at 6- and 12-month post-insertion. Results: MBL in Group II was significantly diminished than in Group I at each observation time point (p<0.05). Conclusion: The use of the Acemannan Sponge effectively reduces marginal bone loss in patients receiving mandibular implant-supported overdentures
