dataset · University of Pretoria
This dataset contains pathogenicity data from controlled inoculation trials assessing the virulence of Botryosphaeriaceae species on macadamia. The data support the analyses presented in Chapters 2 and 3 of the thesis titled "Diversity and pathogenicity of Botryosphaeriaceae occurring on Macadamia in South Africa" and provide quantitative measures of disease development across different tissue types.Experimental overview:<br>Isolates from three genera (Diplodia, Lasiodiplodia, and Neofusicoccum) were inoculated onto branches, fruits, and leaves of macadamia under glasshouse conditions. Lesion development and disease severity were measured over defined incubation periods using standardised methods.Data contents:Chapter 2 (Branches): Lesion size (length, width, area), wood discolouration, bark necrosis, and symptom observations recorded over 12 weeks.Chapter 3 (Fruits and Leaves): Lesion size, lesion characteristics, sporulation, and tissue response recorded over 7 days.Additional variables include isolate identity, species, inoculation and assessment dates, replicate information, and observational notes.
