Automated Generation of Personalized Evaluation Subjects in Higher Education

Abstract

Artificial Intelligence (AI) in university exams: empowering and disempowering possibilities Tools enabled by AI can offer more security for exams, grade automatically, track down plagiarism and also tailor tests to how students fare. Yet, there are concerns about these tools in terms of academic integrity, equity, and privacy. The paper discusses the possible uses of AI in higher education exams, focusing on proctoring systems, automated essay scoring and adaptive testing, the related biases and cheating problems as well as of over-technologising exams. Drawing on case studies and ethical considerations the paper suggests guidelines for responsible AI uptake in academic assessments, striking the right balance between innovativeness and integrity in higher education.
