ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE AND KARL MARX'S CRITICISM OF CAPITALISM: A LOGICO-DIALOGICAL APPROACH

Abstract

Cupidity is a human vice that institutionalizes oppression. Technological cupidity epitomizes the alienation, exploitation, and the extraction of surplus value which Karl Marx condemned in capitalism. Ab ovo, technology promised liberation from drudgery, yet human suffering persists. Paradoxically, Artificial Intelligence (AI) is implicated in deepening inequality despite its promise of smart decision-making, hyperconnectivity, and digital humanism. This paper used Marx’s criticism of capitalism to Xray capitalist AI to expose the myth of human-induced technological determinism. It argued that profit-driven imperatives systematically thwart the emancipatory potential of AI. Through a logico-dialogical approach, the study unveils how tech monopolies disguise domination as innovation, and then poses two cogent questions: Can AI be freed from the grip of capitalism? Can it be extricated from corporate power and channelled to collective flourishing instead? The paper concluded by envisioning a post-capitalist AI ethic rooted in justice, equity, and the reclamation of technology for human glorious ends.‌
