Artificial Intelligence and Internet of Things Powered Smart Irrigation: Transforming Agricultural Efficiency and Sustainability

Abstract

Water is necessary for the establishment of empires and civilizations. Water has economic value because it supports agriculture, sustains rich ecosystems, and feeds people worldwide. It is impossible to estimate the terrible implications for the food supply chain and agriculture sector in the absence of water supplies. From a worldwide standpoint, a semiarid nation such as Morocco confronts two difficulties: climate change and water scarcity, which place significant strain on the region's food security as well as agricultural output. This challenge in water efficiency is addressed using cutting-edge technologies based on the Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI), allowing us to build a smart system for real-time monitoring and control of water usage in the fields. The system can monitor humidity, temperature, rainfall predictions, and tank water levels. The intelligent system under consideration determines whether to open the valve for soil irrigation or not. The system has several benefits in addition to optimizing water use. It also improves soil water retention by over-controlling flood irrigation and limiting unnecessary rainfall.
