Application of Cascade Refrigeration System in Energy Deficient Societies

Abstract

Energy-efficient cascade freezers are widely used in countries with limited energy resources for large-scale manufacturing, preservation, storage, quick freezing, and cost-effective energy use. Because of the health and nutritional benefits of zobo beverages, as well as their low price, individuals from various socioeconomic backgrounds frequently consume them locally. The limited shelf life of Zobo drinks, which occurs when they are improperly chilled, is the main barrier to their mass production. The paper determined how much energy a convectional and cascade refrigeration system used. Using a 3 KVA generator, the cascade freezer only used 3.7 kg of fuel for two hours, compared to the traditional freezer's 8.14 kg of gasoline for six hours of operation. The product's limited shelf life was preserved while fuel costs were decreased using the rapid deep-freezing method. Compared to a total of 11232 MJ at a cost of #204600 per month, the energy utilized by the cascade freezer was 1702 MJ at a cost of #24800 per month. At a cost of #2187567, the cascade refrigerator saved 114.4 GJ of energy per year. The ability of this study to refreeze after 72 hours and maintain the appropriate freezing temperature for three days without a power source was exciting. The supply chain for Zobo items that are kept cold is significantly reinforced for use in emerging and developing markets.
