Application of advanced generic product quality technological maturity assessment model, EbereDimMT003 by membership function on metal subtractive manufacturing technology

Abstract

Depending on the complexity of part to manufacture, subtractive manufacturing technology is a very old and mature technology going by the design, seamless application and results of the novel generic product quality technological maturity assessment model, EbereDimMT001 on the subtractive manufacturing technology assessment with impressive and consistent results. Although the standard and degree of its maturity or maturity level has not been universally established anywhere in the competitive advanced manufacturing and product quality (PQ) ranking, thus there is a need for continuous research and development toward new or improved models to ascertain more widely acceptable standards, models, results and level of technology advancement in the subtractive manufacturing technology (SMT), a reliable data-based status, and the best means to achieve that. Also, the need for continuous update of the existing and prospective government agencies, academia and industry private investors on the maturity and new or improved methodology. This has necessitated the quest for more research into the technology maturity assessment, remodeling and implementation for better results. For this purpose, the new digital advanced generic semi-direct technological maturity assessment methodology (SDTMAM) model; EbereDimMT003 with membership function is adopted. Artificial intelligence (AI), fuzzy logic theory and set theory-based, data and software engineering models were therefore systematically assembled, and progressively applied as generic scientific tools to source and process research data for a now primary product quality technology maturity assessment of advanced metal subtractive manufacturing technology. The model was implemented with the membership function on the advanced metal computer and numerical control (CNC) machining process maturity. A capability maturity model integration (CMMI) maturity profile of the Software Engineering Institute (SEI) of Carnegia Mellon University, USA was adopted as a reference maturity profile for the technological maturity assessment results and ranking. The PQ technological maturity of MSMT after research and result simulation was consistently found at the quantitatively managed maturity level of 4ML of 5CMMI maturity profile, where the technology maturity of the MSMT based on PQ is 80%. Which means maturity level at 4ML, which is 80% maturity. This validates the model optimization goal, thus represents the maturity level of the metal subtractive manufacturing technology based on product quality.
