Agro-management Techniques and Precision Agriculture/Agriculture 4.0 in Arid Lands

Abstract

Soil and water resources are critical factors for the production and application of smart precision agriculture systems in arid zone regions. This technology provides comprehensive management and control of soil, air, and water by computers or smartphones. Many recently established smart systems have the ability to automatically program and control all aspects of crop production. They offer a wide range of supportive water and soil management solutions that will help farmers raise the efficiencies of water, soil, energy use, and crop yield, maintaining the environment and supporting the concept of sustainable agriculture. Dryland rainfed cropping depends on green water for economical produce without irrigation. With variations in rainfall and frequent droughts, rainfed crops often suffer from moisture stress and, consequently, low and fluctuating production. The key to improving dryland rainfed productivity is directly related to good agro-management techniques for soil, water, and plants, and adopting climate-smart digital agriculture.
