Advanced Metamaterial Filter-Antenna with Reflector for Railway Systems

Abstract

This study investigates a compact, low-profile filterantenna designed to mitigate electromagnetic interference (EMI) in railway wireless systems. Operating at 5.9 GHz, the proposed structure integrates a planar metamaterial screen with a patch radiating element. This configuration maintains optimal return loss and radiation patterns within the desired band while effectively reflecting out-of-band interference. Furthermore, a Frequency Selective Surface (FSS) reflector enhances the antenna's gain and directivity. Our contribution lies in developing this highly selective bandpass filter specifically for railway transportation, demonstrating strong rejection of lowfrequency signals prevalent in such environments.
