AC Microgrid Converters Control and Operational Schemes

Abstract

Due to the rapid development of distributed energy systems and the growing need for clean and sustainable energy, AC microgrids have become a viable option for decentralized power generation and management. AC microgrids rely on efficient control techniques to provide optimal operation, stability, and power quality. The operational control systems used in AC microgrid converters, which serve as the interface between the microgrid and its constituent DERs, are examined in this chapter. It starts with an overview of AC microgrids and their significance in achieving energy independence and resilience. Following that, the chapter digs into linear feedback controllers, covering their application, design approaches, and performance characteristics in alternating current microgrids. The subject then shifts to nonlinear controllers, looking at how they might address the dynamic and complicated character of microgrids. Finally, the chapter looks ahead to future developments in AC microgrid controllers, with a focus on the incorporation of machine learning and reinforcement learning algorithms as viable methodologies. The chapter provides readers with significant insights into the design, implementation, and optimization of AC microgrid converters by giving an in-depth analysis of control systems. This in-depth research strengthens the case for reliable and effective AC microgrid operation in the context of evolving energy systems. It also improves the field of AC microgrid control.
