A Zero Consensus-Based Tracking Control for Efficient DC-Stage Charging of EV Battery

Abstract

Electric vehicles (EV) are becoming increasingly prevalent on the road, and their charging strategies have evolved considerably throughout recent years. In this paper, the consensus tracking control technique is employed to enhance the efficiency of the dc-stage charging process in a dc charging power circuit developed in MATLAB/Simulink. The proposed controller is designed considering the state space model for the EV battery and the power deviation of the buck-boost dc charger. The controller's objective is to force the power deviation due to EV batteries charging at the dc ports down to almost zero. Achieving zero consensus guarantees that the source port of the EV battery charger does not experience overload, thus enhancing charging efficiency. The results show that the controller effectively manages the EV battery charging procedure. Compared to the scenario that does not implement consensus tracking control, there is a reduction in charging power losses, leading to an improvement of approximately 0.9 % in the operational efficiency of the dc charging circuit.
