A succinct overview on the Impact of Traceability: benefits and challenges

Abstract

Right from the post-colonial era, the persistent relegation of traceability in metrology has not only dealt a heavy blow on quality control of the industrial products of the countries in the sub-saharan African region but also created a false impression that the technological products of the colonial masters are always better than those made by their indigenous counterparts, thus subjecting the entire region to neo-colonization. Consequently, this research work has beamed its searchlight on impacts of traceability on technology and quality control with a view to analysing and establishing the link between traceability and metrology. Organizations also have a duty to protect accurate and traceable measurements of data, especially in industries where safety, health and the environmental impact are critical. This paper investigates the relevance of traceability in various sectors, concentrating on its roles in maintaining measurement standards, regulatory compliance and product quality control besides the colossal benefits to technology. This paper also examines implementation issues that business and industries encounter while building traceability systems and recommends the best practices in overcoming the challenges.
