A Salient review on Calibration Techniques and Standards in Metrology

Abstract

Across the globe, inadequate knowledge of essential components of metrology such as calibration protocols and standards, has dealt a heavy blow on the precision and dependability of measurements carried out in companies, health sector, technological and scientific laboratories. Consequently, an overview of calibration processes is presented in this review with a focus on their critical roles in preserving measurement accuracy. In addition, a variety of calibration procedures and methodologies, from easy calibration checks to more complex calibration processes requiring equipment and reference standards are extensively considered. Moreover, the significance of regular calibration intervals including the documentation of calibration besides the new developments in calibration technology and their effects on downtime as well as efficiency are accorded a robust analysis in this report.. Essentially, this paper highlights the crucial role that standards and calibration techniques play in metrology, while shedding more light on the significance of these processes in obtaining precise and trustworthy measurements necessary for well-informed decision-making and quality assurance in a variety of applications
