A RELIABILITY ASSESSMENT OF IDI-OGUN 33/11 KV SUBSTATION

Abstract

This research aims to evaluate the reliability of the Idi-Ogun power distribution substation, focusing on outage frequency, duration, and restoration time, to ensure a consistent and uninterrupted electricity supply. Historical data on power outages was collected from the consumer end of the power system, including timestamps, durations, causes, and affected areas. The data was then analyzed for frequency, duration, and trends, using metrics such as SAIFI (System Average Interruption Frequency Index) and SAIDI (System Average Interruption Duration Index). The result showed that the average frequency of failure was 44.10%. The estimated number of customers for this study is 130 households. SAIFI was between 43.33 and 130. The SAIDI ranges from 0.03 – 0.18. The findings highlight the need for targeted infrastructure upgrades and real-time monitoring technologies to bolster overall reliability and meet consumer expectations for uninterrupted power.
