This paper presents an adequate model and design of the Superconducting Fault Current Limiting (SFCL) device used in electrical power systems. To study the proposed SFCL's ability to reduce the transient short circuit current, a MATLAB/SIMULINK model for SCFL has been built and applied on the IEEE 9-bus system, and on a real isolated four-bus multi-machine system. The optimal design of SFCL is obtained by means of the Arithmetic Optimization Algorithm (AOA) compared with other designs using Gray Wolf Optimizer (GWO). The results show the superiority of SFCL based on the AOA technique in enhancing the system dynamic performance effectively over the GWO technique. In terms of faulted line current reduction, improvement of system voltage profile, generators speed deviation, rotor angle, and valve movement. Also, it's miles clear that thermal homes of the superconductor on the simulation level of electrical power systems are vital for estimations of reliability. Our outcomes can help community operators in choice-making regarding investment and merchandising of SFCL technologies, additionally, it's far feasible to decide the maximum variety of SFCLs necessary to guard the device towards distinctive fault conditions.
