A Comparative Study of Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) Using P&O Method and Fuzzy Logic Method in Solar PV Array

Abstract

During the day, the temperature and irradiance change, Therefore, attaining the maximum available power under certain environmental conditions may be complex and requires a set of techniques aimed at tracking the maximum available power. To address this problem, in this study, an intelligent fuzzy controller is proposed for maximum power point tracking (MPPT) to control photovoltaic systems. PV arrays are connected to DC-DC boosters, MPPT controllers, and loads in this system. A comparison is made between the results obtained using the FLC and those obtained using the conventional P&O method. Simulation results with Matlab/Simulink show that the proposed algorithm has a more effective response in tracking the MPP, which decreases oscillations especially during rapid atmospheric changes.
