A 28 GHz 64-Element Array Patch Antenna for 5G Application

Abstract

In this paper, we successfully developed and validated a 64-element patch antenna array designed for 5G applications. The process began with designing a single antenna element mounted on a Rogers RT 5880 substrate featuring a dielectric constant of 2.2, a thickness of 0.252 mm, and a loss tangent of 0.009. This initial design was then replicated to form a uniform array of 64 identical elements. Simulations conducted using two electromagnetic solvers demonstrated promising results: the array exhibited excellent input impedance matching with a reflection coefficient of approximately -34.706 dB, again of 17.668 dB at 28 GHz, and a stable radiation pattern.
